It is tempting to dismiss the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Land Rover as Lite, a luxury SUV posing as the progeny of a number of vehicles with a perfect off-road heritage. The temptation is not unjustified. The Range Rover Sport is the new Land Rover transparent attempt to draw a well-heeled urban set more interested in all-weather mobility as an all-terrain adventure. In reality, the Range Rover Sport shares more in common with the former Land Rover LR3 as the top-of-the-line Range Rover. The sport is almost 8 inches shorter than the Range Rover and offers almost 2.5 inches less ground clearance. But even though the sport is lacking enthusiasm for the double-track lines, the name says, it’s not an unhappy city person. The New 2011 Range Rover Sport is still a full-time four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, ascent and descent control, an electronic locking system, rear differential and a system, the powertrain and chassis components settings for optimum traction in conditions such as snow, dirt synchronized, mud and gravel. Even when Range Rover Sport owners never drive off-road, the sport is more willing to dirty his boots than most of its competitors.
