2012 Vauxhall Ampera

GM's Voltec plug-in hybrid technology continued its world tour in Geneva Motor Show 2009, where it was announced this week that the right-hand drive Vauxhall Ampera will be on sale in 2012 for the UK market. Unlike most current hybrids, the Voltec hybrid system that powers the Ampera uses electricity to drive the wheels full-time. A 16 kW/h lithium ion battery provides power, and the gasoline engine serves only as an on-board generator. This arrangement allows the Ampera to cruise completely gasoline-free for up to 40 miles at all speeds. With the engine on hand to charge the batteries, an extended range of over 300 miles is expected. When it's not on the road, the Ampera can be charged using any standard 240-volt electric outlet.

2011 Vauxhall Zafira Tourer Concept

Vauxhall has sought to create a comfortable, relaxing lounge ambience with the interior of the new Zafira, shown here in concept car form. Vauxhall's trademark Flex7 seating now allows the middle row of seats to fold flat into the floor. The Zafira Tourer also boasts a 'lounge seat' middle row. Similar to the Vauxhall Meriva and other MPVs on the market, this allows the centre chair to drop down, liberating extra space for two middle-row passengers. The interior is richly trimmed in caramel-coloured leather, with contrasting dark brown trim on the doors, and deep-pile carpets. This is not your usual toddler-resistant troop-carrier fare.

2011 Vauxhall VXR8

The new VXR8 is going to dare of a lot of the sports sedans out there to be better at what they do. Models like the Audi RS6, Jaguar XFR, and Mercedes E63 AMG will be second guessed now that this spicy sports sedan is on the market. However, one advantage these vehicles will have is that only the British will be able to opt for the VXR8.

2011 Vauxhall Meriva

The Vauxhall Meriva has had a recent makeover and now features incredible reverse hinged rear doors like a Rolls Royce, which naturally make access levels impressive for a small MPV. The Meriva delivers a decent enough driving experience and has economy figures as high as 57.6 MPG and car tax that can be £95 per year Band D for the 1.3 diesel engined variant.

Available from late May, the Nurburgring Edition is described by Vauxhall as the “most powerful Corsa ever.” With a re-worked version of the Corsa VXR’s 1.6 litre turbo-charged engine, the Nurburgring boasts improved horsepower and torque, with horsepower up to 202bhp and torque up to 280Nm. These improvements mean that the Corsa now goes from 0-60mph in just 6.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 143mph.
