2011 Porsche USA has introduced the 911 Carrera GTS

Truth is, as with so many of our favorite performance cars, the idea of driving a GT3 daily is quite a bit more appealing than actually doing it. After a few months, most get tired of bracing for every pebble in the road, crawling sideways over speed bumps, and struggling to make out the profile of Police Interceptors behind that gargantuan rear spoiler. And that's why Porsche USA has introduced the 911 GTS. Designed for those who know every "Poorsh"-owning dentist already has a Carrera S, but not wanting to visit any of them after their GT3 knocks loose a filling, the Carrera GTS is a sensible intermediary step on the Porsche Pyramid of Performance. With 408 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, the Carrera GTS slots in neatly between the 385 horses of the Carrera S and the 435 found in the GT3. That extra 23 horsepower over the S comes courtesy of Porsche's horsepower package - normally a $16,900 Exclusive option -- that adds a six-valve air intake system to the 3.8-liter flat-six engine.
